Magic
Alcove
A project I designed to practice asset creation. Most objects were designed by me, a few were based off of neat reference objects that I saw in real life. Modeled in Blender, Textured in Substance Painter and Photoshop, Rendered in Unreal Engine 4.

Optimization

Total project (excluding vines as they were added from a separate practice project) contains 1,411,956 tris. I kept some very high impact models un-optimized because I enjoyed the dimensionality and texture of them. I'll describe a few ways that the tri count can be significantly reduced in the next slides.

The ridges in this edge design are modeled. They could easily be baked down onto a solid edge like I've superimposed here to reduce the poly load of this area from 105,984 polys to 1024 polys.

The planks in this tabletop are modeled individually. The tabletop can be modeled as a solid piece and the details baked down removing 4 sides from each plank reducing the load from 3,240 polys to 256 polys.
